The the update is due to hit next year, while Windows Mobile 7 development — an OS that was never supposed to be the be-all and end-all — seemingly continues to wallow. As for improvements, there’s tiny to go on right now, though it does sound like the interface might get some work. In all it seems like increasingly tiny, increasingly late, but we’re willing to be surprised, Microsoft.br /br /[Via a href=http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detailamp;t=newsamp;id=6202pocketnow/a]p style=padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;a href=http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/07/windows-mobile-6-5-confirmed-by-steve-ballmer-might-solve-half/Windows Mobile 6.5 confirmed by Steve Ballmer, might solve half your problems/a originally appeared on a href=http://www.engadget.comEngadget/a on Fri, 07 Nov 2008 11:36:00 EST. Actually, okay, that doesn’t surprise us at all — and T-Mobile’s helping us live out that reality with the Cameo, its Parrot-sourced frame that features integrated GSM hardware and a dedicated phone number that… Continue reading

Blackberry Bold shows up for free on contract at Walmart
November 4, 2008
Well hell, that Blackberry Bold decision just got a lot easier if you’re, uh, bold enough to sign a two-year contract with AT&T — it’s now free after rebate at Walmart. Yep, it’s only been out for two days and Wally’s already handing ‘em for free — somehow we don’t think that’s gonna happen with the Storm. Still, this is the one you want if you double-heart keyboards with itty-bitty keys — just make sure you actually mail in the forms, okay?
Update: The deal is through LetsTalk, so if you and Sam aren’t getting along you can order direct from them.
[Thanks, Barry and Jedidiah]

Samsung’s T*Omnia: all that and double the i900 Omnia’s resolution
November 4, 2008
Like the i900 Omnia, eh? We sure did. Well here’s its prettier, smarter cousin tagged the T*Omnia. For the most part, it’s the same quad-band, WinMo 6.1 candybar with 7.2Mbps HSDPA data, WiFi, GPS, 5 megapixel cam, and nifty TouchWiz UI we’ve seen for months. But this hometown Korean version bumps the display to a WVGA, 800 x 480 pixels (up from 400 x 240) while slapping in a DMB digital TV tuner to ensure its non-Stateside status for eternity… at least with this specific configuration. Perhaps Verizon would be so kind as to make use of that display?

Marware’s Game Grip for the iPhone complicates what should be simple
November 3, 2008
We’ve seen a few accessories for augmenting the gaming experience on the iPhone which would give the device awesome functions similar to a game controller, such as the elusive and yet-to-materialize iControlPad and the totally fake JoyPod. Well, Marware’s Game Grip is sort of like that — silicone sleeves that your phone fits into — except that it doesn’t actually do anything beyond providing ‘handles’ for your phone while you game. Oh, and it exists. So let’s refer to it as the ‘enjoyment enabler’ of your iPhone 3G or iPod touch 2G which can be used with headphones (just like normal), can be charged while gaming (just like normal), and has a ‘cord management system’ (kind of not normal). If that’s not enough to convince you to reach for your wallet, the “lifetime guarantee” and ludicrously zany look of the thing will probably get you to bite… it’s $49.99 and available for pre-order right now.

North American N96 hits Nokia flagship stores
November 2, 2008
Nokia’s North American N96 has already made an appearance at Ideal Purchase Mobile locations but, if you’re the die hard type that prefers to keep things as Nokia-centric as possible, you’ll no doubt be pleased to know that Nokia’s flagship phone is now also available at Nokia’s two flagship stores in New York and Chicago. You’ll have to pay a slight premium for all that Nokia-ness, however, with the phone running a hefty $842 (unlocked, of course) at the stores compared to the $800 Best Purchase is asking. Those with a bit more will power and slightly less affection for Nokia might want to think twice though, as Amazon now also has the phone listed for just $705.99, albeit with a promised ship date of November 9th.

BlackBerry Bold up for pre-order at Best Buy: $680 smackers

Greatest projector / iPhone clone combo handset in the world now up for sale
October 31, 2008
Look, here’s what you need to do: reach into the appropriate pocket on your personage, take out your phone, and throw it into the nearest wall. It sucks. The N70 from Lanye (or ChinaKing, or… somebody from China), which we’ve drooled over previously, is a candybar phone with a 2.4-inch screen, Bluetooth 2.0, and a little bit of dual-band GSM. Oh, and a built-in projector. And an interface that almost perfectly mirrors that of the iPhone with the addition of voice recording and MMS. It’s awesome, and it’s now available for import for a mere $345. A bargain at any price.
[Thanks, Andrew]
